Caitlin Myors 2012 life after school

I graduated Calrossy in 2012. A career in a science based industry wasn’t something I had ever considered as my primary focus was always agriculture. I stumbled upon the opportunity with Maverick Biosciences unexpectedly and have now been with the company 5 years. At Maverick, we believe that we are helping to save and improve lives through the supply of animal derived biological raw materials for the human health care industry. Maverick provides clients with high quality products that support the development of leading edge treatments within cardiovascular and dental medicine. In my role I routinely use the foundational knowledge learned at Calrossy studying both science and agriculture.

Calrossy has always had a fabulous Agriculture program so it is exciting to hear that the school is investing in the science facilities with the opening of the new building on the William Cowper Campus. I believe that the most inspiring thing for me from my school years was the passionate teachers we had access to. After school I went straight into the workforce doing agricultural work including contract stock work and in a feedlot. I did decide to complete a Diploma of Agriculture however the most valuable form of post school learning has been informal on the job training.

I am currently living and working in Dubbo NSW. Based in regional NSW and operating throughout Australia and New Zealand, Maverick provides extensive opportunity to develop my skills in both the science and manufacturing fields. These skills could be applied in many areas both in Australia and internationally. In this specialised field we are regularly working with clients from all corners of the globe including Asia, Europe and America.

I would encourage anyone unsure of what they want to do in life to consider a career in a science-based industry. There are some fabulous careers out there that you can work in to make a real difference to the community around you.
